It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of the National Park system and, while mountains and forests are near and dear to my heart, there is a highly unique park tucked away in southern New Mexico that keeps sneaking back into my mind.

Stepping out of your car and into the world of White Sands is like leaving planet Earth behind. The landscape is endless and fascinating – a canvas of smooth, white sand dotted with cacti and desert blooms. Sunrise is my favorite time in the park, despite chilly pre-sunrise temperatures. Each sunrise is different but there’s nothing like seeing the morning colors sweep across the landscape.

If you want to feel like the only two people in the universe, White Sands would be the perfect place to elope. It is incredibly easy to access and offers a backdrop unlike any other. Basically, let your imagination run wild.

Every time we are in the area, I make a point of driving out of the way to visit this gem. On our way out of Texas this February, Russell and I stopped for a little exploration and were greeted by a deep blue sky and warm sunrise watercolors. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.
