Ann + Josh: Intimate Upstate New York Organic Farm Wedding

Her Name: Ann
Her Birthplace: Indianapolis, Indiana
His Name: Josh
His Birthplace: Longmont, Colorado

Where did you meet? Fort Collins, Colorado

Describe the very first time you met: We met at a Pig Roast fundraiser for the local fire department. Josh had recently retired from a neighboring fire department and I worked at a Bakery that provided the pies for the event. It was at a bar in the small town where Josh lived and I worked but we had never met. We started chatting about our love for musicals over a full plate of locally raised and food. He asked me to dance which I love to do so I said yes. He’s a great dancer and swept me off my feet. Our first date was going to see the play Oklahoma at the local dinner theater. The play wasn’t great but we had a wonderful time!

Can you identify specific decisions or life events that brought you together? We had many similar acquaintances and liked similar activities but our paths had not crossed. I don’t think either of us was ready to meet the other until we did. When we met we were both at a transition point in our lives and it was exciting to meet someone with a similar life vision and goals. Going to that pig roast lead us down our journey that would take us across the country to New York together.

What were your first impressions of each other and what initially attracted you?
Josh:
I thought she was cute and after talking we had lots in common and similar outlooks on life. I like her ambition. Also, she was a pretty decent dancer.
Ann: I thought he was interesting and had kind eyes. He had a calm confidence that intrigued me.

As you saw more of each other, what really made you fall in love? Similar sense of humor and out looks on life brought us closer and closer together.

Did your love face any big challenges? Any differences you had to work through? There are challenges with sharing both a personal and professional life and we are constantly working on better communication and establishing boundaries.

What moment did you know you wanted to spend your life with this person? Talking about our dreams and aspirations and the shared excitement made us realize we wanted that life together.

Who proposed and how? Josh proposed at our house in Colorado. He set up lights in a tree along the hill in back yard. It was December so it was cold and he had me hike out a very large box which he said was an early Christmas present. I unwrapped box after box until it was a wooden box he had made and engraved. The ring was inside and he proposed.

Where do you live now? If different from where you met, what brought you to where you live now? We live on our farm in Greenwich, New York. The price of land in Colorado is sky-rocketing and there isn’t always enough water. We finally decided to sell our farm near Fort Collins and buy a much more comfortable farm in Upstate NY.

Are there any locations that are special to you as a couple? Fort Collins, CO will always be special because thats were we met, fell in love, and started our first business together.

Do you see your location changing in the future? After our big move to New York I do not see our location changing again. This is our forever home/homestead/family farm. We now have to rely on each other more than ever right now being in a new place and taking on starting up a farm.
